BRIEF:

The client requirements were to design an Installation for an Australian artist and express the issue they are trying to portray in their art practice. It had to be a memorable moment that would connect people with the artist’s concept.

CONCEPT:

The Installation interprets Hall’s chosen works regarding a perceived dystopian future that she portrays in her artwork.

The experience was to create a tunnel that resembled bones of a dead creature as the journey begins with beautiful Australian natives hanging from above, birds chirping and you go further these plants start to wither and die, there is dead silence in the background with only the rustling of the dead leaves on the ground.

The journey experience is the same at night-time with one addition of the LED lights with sensors, they only operate in the area you are standing to give a dramatic feel and ambiance to the environment. At the end of the journey when the audience look behind, they only see darkness and the dystopian future. The installation makes one realizethe depletion of the environment and the coexistence of humanity.

Concept statement

When I was young it was magical. Mystical creatures roamed around
creating music everywhere.

Then you came in my life smitten by my beauty, and I by your smile.
Hand in hand we walked together, creating magic everywhere you would take a little and I would give it willingly.

As time goes by greed consumes you, you take so much a part of me dies.

I see power, I see hate, I see selfishness and greed every where. Immunity to destruction has become your destiny.

I burn, I bleed, I weep but ignorance is what I see.

If I die of depletion, my dear, don’t you see! you coexist only because of me....

Who am I? Mother nature you reply!

Who are you? Humanity you define……….!
